The Friends of Bear Creek Stables have secured a $2500 grant from Bay Area Barns and Trails (BABT) for improvements to the lower arena and tie stall area.  Bay Area Barns and Trails was incorporated as a California non-profit corporation in November 1999. BABT assists land owners and land managers with preservation and maintenance of publicly accessible barns, stables, pastures, staging areas, horse camps and trails throughout Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Mateo, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma Counties.

A new drainage system was installed to remove rainwater and storm run-off from the arena and mitigate flooding in the area.  In addition, the footing in the tie stalls was upgraded with base rock and new rubber mats.  Damaged tie stall dividers were repaired and painted,  and a general clean up of the area undertaken.

This is one of many projects the Friends is working collaboratively with stables management and MROSD to improve the facilities, and to secure a long-term lease for the stables.
